Here is an interview that we made for the E-world 2026 community.
E-world Startup Spotlight with xtra-energy
As part of our E-world Startup Spotlight interview series, we are introducing young companies that are developing new approaches and digital solutions for the energy industry. The aim is to provide an insight into current developments and practical applications ahead of the trade fair. In today’s spotlight: xtra-energy. The French company develops a software solution for energy contract and portfolio management. The platform is aimed at energy suppliers, electricity producers, and energy traders, among others, and supports them in mapping energy contracts and managing portfolios and market processes.
Which problems in the energy sector are you solving with your platform?
xtra-energy’s Energy Portfolio Management Platform helps renewable energy producers navigate today’s complex markets. As fixed-price contracts shift toward real-time trading, structured agreements, and ancillary services, producers need agile solutions to maximize value.
Our platform empowers Independent Power Producers to model and optimize across all timeframes—from 15-year structured contracts to 15-minute dispatch decisions on both energy and ancillary services markets. We accelerate competitive strategy and unlock renewable portfolio’s full potential through automated market participation and sophisticated portfolio management.
What role do you see for digitalization and software platforms in managing the energy transition and flexibility markets?
Digitalization is critical for navigating the energy transition’s complexity. Modern software platforms enable three essential capabilities:
- Real-time asset management and steering ensures optimal dispatch decisions as market conditions shift minute-by-minute, maximizing renewable output value.
- Real-time trading captures fleeting opportunities across day-ahead, intraday, and balancing markets, turning volatility into competitive advantage.
- Real-time P&L follow-up provides instant visibility into portfolio performance, enabling rapid strategy adjustments and risk management.
These capabilities transform renewable portfolios from passive generators into dynamic market participants.
How do you ensure that your tools stay adaptable and scalable, given the fast-changing regulatory and market conditions in energy?
- We have a flexibility by design approach. Our « start with clicks, scale with code » philosophy ensures adaptability across changing conditions.
- Out-of-the-box agility: Intuitive interfaces handle daily operations, with configuration options that adjust to new market rules without custom development.
- Power user extensibility: APIs and Python integration let teams build custom calculations and dashboards analytics, automate complex workflows, and integrate external systems as needs evolve.
- Scalable architecture: Whether managing 10 assets or 1,000, entering new markets, or adapting to regulatory shifts, the platform grows with you.
This dual approach means you’re never locked in!
What developments do you expect to see over the next five years?
Renewables will drive a fundamental market transformation:
- Renewable producers evolve into sophisticated traders, moving beyond project management to active market participation across multiple timeframes and products.
- Suppliers integrate complex long-term renewable contracts into hedging strategies, requiring new risk management capabilities.
- Market volatility intensifies, demanding real-time optimization and flexible dispatch.
- Grid operators leverage renewables and batteries for ancillary services, creating new revenue streams while maintaining stability.
- Software providers must deliver platforms that bridge today’s operations with tomorrow’s complexity—enabling producers to compete
Why is E-world an important platform for your company?
